SVDS Takes Manhattan: Strata + Hadoop World New York

September 20th, 2013

The Silicon Valley Data Science team will be out at force in New York this October, for Strata + Hadoop World (October 28-30). Our appearances include:

  • Building A Data Platform: CTO John Akred, Distinguished Architect Stephen O’Sullivan and Principal Engineer Richard Williamson will present an afternoon workshop considering the essential components of a data platform. This tutorial will explain how the various parts of the Hadoop and big data ecosystem fit together in production to create a data platform supporting batch, interactive and realtime analytical workloads.
  • How is a rational (big) data deployment approach like optimizing the generation mix of a power company?: Akred and O’Sullivan talk about the choices navigated in big data deployments surrounding virtualization: do the benefits of optimizing for the job outweigh the performance hit of virtualization? Can you make up for that with a little more hardware? Does it make sense to use bare metal for well understood and predictable workloads?
  • The Big Data Doctor Is In: Opinions might be plentiful in big data, but experience is rare. Join this interactive session to quiz some of the industry’s most seasoned minds about what works and what doesn’t when it comes to bringing big data to business. John Akred joins other experienced big data integrators to hand out real life advice.

Edd Dumbill (VP Strategy), the founding chair of Strata, will host the conference and MC keynotes as usual. CEO Sanjay Mathur will join the team in New York. We look forward to seeing you there!
